05/09/18 Fitness by Jacflash’s Women’s Power Yoga Workshop with Kay Ghajar and My Sister Meagan Wilson!

In celebration of Mother’s Day, 100% of proceeds for this workshop went to Sistering.org, a multi-service agency aimed at supporting women in Toronto facing poverty, marginalization, and homelessness. Women at sistering are battling a range of difficulties including mental health problems, substance abuse, run-ins with the criminal justice system, lack of access due to immigrant/refugee status, and more. At Sistering, a small team of women work tirelessly to offer a 24/7 drop-in, that provides shelter, hot meals, crisis intervention, harm reduction, and trauma-informed counselling services. They also make referrals for housing, health, and legal and immigration services.

This workshop took place on Wednesday, May 9th 7-9pm at 165 Geary Ave, unit 2.

Kay Ghajar (@kayghajar) has been practicing yoga for almost 10 years. She began exploring different styles of yoga after taking courses in positive psychology, which informed on the benefits of yoga and meditation. After a traumatic life event in university and failed progression through traditional counselling, she started practicing yoga and keeping a gratitude jar, which began her healing process and changed her outlook on life.

Kay received her 200-hour teaching certificate at Power Yoga Canada and will lead us through an amazing Power Yoga session. Her detailed, descriptive instruction and high energy makes the class exciting, comprehendible and achievable for the women in the class who are all at different levels.

I am also thrilled to have my sister Meagan Wilson speak to us at this workshop! As she is an eminent inspiration and role model in my life, I am thrilled to have you all hear my sister speak to us about “Connecting with your core values”.

Meagan is a Mama to 4 beautiful souls: North, Indigo, Juniper and Sage and loving wife to Brad. After living ten years in Sydney, Australia she just recently took flight and put down new roots in the Canadian countryside just outside of Toronto. She received a BA from McGill University, taught TESOL to young children in South Korea and after the birth of her first child began researching and studying play-based learning, natural parenting and early childhood education from a Waldorf perspective.

After she received her Foundations in Rudolf Steiner Education she founded her business Whole Family Rhythms (wholefamilyrhythms.com). A virtual online community that provides mothers and carers resources, information and courses on conscious connected parenting that is aligned with their unique family values. Meagan is also a Simplicity Parenting Family Life Coach (wholefamilyrhythms.com/work-with-Meagan) and helps Mamas and parents with the early childhood challenges they may be experiencing.

We had artist @officialchillgirl (Alex) paint during the workshop as well!

And Holly from The Ten Spot giving massages!

Spaces by Jacflash transforms a once dated and claustrophobic living space into an open, airy and alluring haven

Spaces by Jacflash transformed this once claustrophobic, dated dining room into an open and airy, gorgeous living space.

We removed a dated plate rail that had made the the ceilings feel very low. We also removed the stair wall, exposed the brick and hid a bulkhead by transforming it into a feature to accentuate our new crown moulding.

Spaces by Jacflash custom designed these modern, matte black windows, manufactured by @futurezona and added some Parisian style moulding to give the room additional glamour and character.

Installing wide plank, white oak floors, a large patina mirror and a custom slatted stair guard to elongate the ceilings all make the space feel more open and grande. The french style panels are one of our favourite aspects of the space as we love that it adds architectural interest to the room and makes the space feel classic. The patina mirror was inserted into one of the panels to accentuate the mouldings and to make them look original, adding to the Parisian loft feel we were going for.

For lighting, we used a large crystal chandelier that we contrasted with brand new modern pendants in both the hall and living area. These two pendants are completely different styles, but they are both dark to match the new windows and to add a more masculine touch to the space.

We also painted the exposed brick white to contrast with the sleek stairs.

The overall concept of this space was to combine and craft together various styles of design, including Parisian, classic, modern and industrial to create an alluring and refined space.

Miriam of Viberant Beings will be speaking to us about crystal healing!

Miriam’s spiritual journey began at a young age, as far back as she can remember she has had entities around her delivering messages and wanting to connect.

For over fifteen years she has been working as a child and youth counsellor in a variety of settings such as, shelters, group homes and schools. Her position allows her to advocate for and teach individuals to lead fulfilled lives.

Miriam’s journey as an empath has had its struggles, but with the tools she has learned from reiki she is able to shine a light on the trauma the body holds. Reiki teaches her to transmute and shift energy. Her sessions include tarot and oracle readings and laying crystals on the chakras to help remove any blocks. Miriam provides full body treatment that activate all the senses as she involves instruments and sound healing. She has been trained by a reiki master and was given atonement by her in June 2017.

Miriam will be working with us with a combination of spiritual guidance, pattern shifting, and energy work. She holds space and will guides us to understand and move into a much deeper level and begin our journey into a higher more balanced state of being. She assists individuals to heal painful emotions, find clarity and tap into Universal Intelligence; Creation energy which prevails within us all. Her excitement comes from empowering clients to connect to their innate self-healing, to lay their life foundation actualized from a place of self-love.

Spaces By Jacflash transforms Rachel David’s quirky living room into a sophisticated living space

Spaces by Jacflash amped up our newest client and my good friend Rachel David’s quirky condo into a more sophisticated and put-together living space. (@racheldavid)

We found inspiration from eclectic, traditional spaces. Every piece we chose serves more than one purpose and can live in her home for years.

Our favourite element is the fireplace. This unique built-in has a large mantel and shelving tucked away in the corner, but was originally a dated maple wood. We sanded and painted it —along with the window ledges— white, to brighten and update the room.

The ‘brick’ we used around the fireplace is a porcelain tile that serves to make the mantle look more finished.

With a smaller budget, we had to get creative and use our resources appropriately. Many of the pieces we purchased were inexpensive, and often antiques. We had our first visit to the Hamilton Antique Mall, which is a hidden gem for affordability. The other more modern pieces like the sofa and coffee table were purchased from Ikea.

The plethora of paintings Rachel inherited from her grandmother were a major treat. She had so many to choose from; our role was to curate them in a more effective way. Instead of having the large pieces scattered around her apartment, we created a gallery wall above the couch. This living room looks so bright and colourful, but the only actual source of colour is in the art and accessories, which we love.

Finishing touches like curtains and plants really make this living room feel like it has been put together over time and fits our client’s lifestyle and personality. This project was such a success that Rachel has decided to re-do her kitchen with us next!
