Spaces By Jacflash transforms Rachel David’s quirky living room into a sophisticated living space

Spaces by Jacflash amped up our newest client and my good friend Rachel David’s quirky condo into a more sophisticated and put-together living space. (@racheldavid)

We found inspiration from eclectic, traditional spaces. Every piece we chose serves more than one purpose and can live in her home for years.

Our favourite element is the fireplace. This unique built-in has a large mantel and shelving tucked away in the corner, but was originally a dated maple wood. We sanded and painted it —along with the window ledges— white, to brighten and update the room.

The ‘brick’ we used around the fireplace is a porcelain tile that serves to make the mantle look more finished.

With a smaller budget, we had to get creative and use our resources appropriately. Many of the pieces we purchased were inexpensive, and often antiques. We had our first visit to the Hamilton Antique Mall, which is a hidden gem for affordability. The other more modern pieces like the sofa and coffee table were purchased from Ikea.

The plethora of paintings Rachel inherited from her grandmother were a major treat. She had so many to choose from; our role was to curate them in a more effective way. Instead of having the large pieces scattered around her apartment, we created a gallery wall above the couch. This living room looks so bright and colourful, but the only actual source of colour is in the art and accessories, which we love.

Finishing touches like curtains and plants really make this living room feel like it has been put together over time and fits our client’s lifestyle and personality. This project was such a success that Rachel has decided to re-do her kitchen with us next!

04/15/18 Fitness by Jacflash, Women’s Chest and Booty Workshop with Trainer Lara Marquez and Munira Hudani, a Physiotherapist who specializes in Pelvic Health

Chest day is the BEST Day (and always BOOTY!!!)

On Sunday, April 15th from 12:30-2:30 Fitness by Jacflash hosted another Booty workshop with our Sunday trainer Lara Marquez.

Munira Hudani received a Master of Science in Physical Therapy from the University of Toronto in 2009. She is part of a small group of physiotherapists in Toronto who have extensive experience in the field of Pelvic Health. Her specialized post-graduate training in pelvic floor muscle dysfunction allows her to treat urinary dysfunction, bowel dysfunction, sexual dysfunction and chronic pelvic pain.

Munira is highly passionate about pre-natal and post-partum care, as well as helping women with prolapse. She recently co-founded Made for Women Workouts™ in efforts to help more women with prolapse continue living active lifestyles. She is concurrently working on numerous projects aimed to further awareness of pre- and post-natal care, prolapse, and diastasis rectus abdominis to both the pelvic health community and to the population at large.

She continues to maintain a busy caseload where her clinical expertise is pursued by women of all ages. Her clientele includes doctors, medical specialists, midwives, fitness professionals, as well as other women’s health physiotherapists. She runs her clinical practice with passion and compassion as she strives to make a positive difference in the lives of others.

In this workshop, Munira help us to “get centered” as she aided in our discover our true core. We found out which muscles make up the core (hint: they weren’t the ones we were thinking) and what happens when these muscles become dysfunctional. Munira also revealed how to strengthen one particular core muscle that is key in flattening our abdomen. With this new lens of appreciation, we felt connected to the deepest, stabilizing system in our bodies. By the end of this engaging and interactive workshop, we learned more about parts of your body that we didn’t even know existed and exactly how to use these invisible parts inside of any exercise we do!

Lara then motivated, lead and guided us through every press down and push up along with squats, thrusts and everything else the booty needs.
 

04/03/18 Fitness by Jacflash’s Power Yoga Women’s Workshop with Yoga Instructor Kay Ghajar and CEO/Founder of ARMY of SASS Dance Program, Carla Catherwood

On Tuesday, April 3rd, Fitness by Jacflash held another Power Yoga Women’s Workshop with Yoga Instructor Kay Ghajar and CEO/Founder of ARMY of SASS Dance Program, Carla Catherwood

Yoga mats were provided for use for the evening by The Local Lululemon.

Our instructor Kay Ghajar (@kayghajar) has been practicing yoga for almost 10 years. She began exploring different styles of yoga after taking courses in positive psychology, which informed on the benefits of yoga and meditation. After a traumatic life event in university and failed progression through traditional counselling, she started practicing yoga and keeping a gratitude jar, which began her healing process and changed her outlook on life.

Kay received her 200-hour teaching certificate at Power Yoga Canada and will lead us through an amazing Power Yoga session. Her detailed, descriptive instruction and high energy makes the class exciting, comprehendible and achievable for the women in the class who are all at different levels.

Carla Catherwood, the CEO/Founder of ARMY of SASS Dance Program know’s what it’s like to start from the bottom and work your way up.

Dedicated, focused and driven to detail best describes her work habits. With over 20 years professionally in the dance industry and 13 years as a self-made entrepreneur, she has worked not only as a professional dancer, choreographer and producer, but most importantly as an entrepreneurs, teacher, and mentor to many developing up-and-coming dancers and entrepreneurs.

Her mentoring and teaching style consists of self- effacing and groundbreaking exercises that allow people to see, feel, and nourish the very talent and joy that lives within them.

Outside of a world of dance credits from her late teens and throughout her twenties, Carla is most proud of the work she’s done developing her brand, company and licensing program “ARMY of SASS” https://armyofsass.com/

Our favourite (and most nerve wracking part at first) was when Carla made everyone “strut”!!

Carla also lead us in a discussion about our priorities and how to put ourselves first!

Kay then lead us into her one hour Power Yoga Session.

03/25/18 Fitness by Jacflash, Women’s Back and Booty Workshop with Trainer Lara Marquez and Nutrition & Wellness Specialist Elisa Graci

On Sunday, March 25th our Sunday Workshop trainer Lara Marquez continued her BOOTY workout series and paired it with a BACK strengthener. Squats, thrusts, rows and more.

Nutrition & Wellness Specialist, International Speaker & Lifestyle Coach, Elisa Graci, also spoke to us about Sugar Busting and Optimal Health, since she thinks that we are “Sweet Enough Already.” 😉
