Spaces by Jacflash has transformed this old rental home from a neglected, drab space into a luxuriously, ornate and cozy dwelling.
These are the 5 key features that make this room oh-so-special.
1.Wall Moulding – In our previous blog post on DIY wall moulding,we touched on how wall moulding and wainscotting can dramatically change a bland space into an architecturally appealing room. We decided to frame the back wall with this moulding which pairs perfectly with the freshly white painted brick.
2. Fur – We decided to add some faux fur to give the space a cozy and luxurious vibe.
3. Organic elements – A quick way to liven up a space is by using organic elements. We incorporated a birds of paradise plant, tiny cactus, beautiful roses and an orchid. We also incorporated stacked wood into our bookshelf under our monochromatic library of books.
4. Striking furniture – You would be amazed at where you can find the most intriguing furniture from kijiji to an antique store basement- the stranger the place, the better the find! Most of our pieces in this space are one of a kind and specially selected.
5. An Eye-catching Accessory – Our main attraction in the room is the gorgeous ornate framed mirror. The ornate details in the frame really tie the space together expressing the style as vintage-chic. The gold pairs great with our gold office style floor lamp and marble top gold side table. You can find these frames hiding in antique stores but once restored, they can really tie a room together.

There is a new trend that brings ultimate comfort and lounging indoors: hammocks and swings create eye-catching loungers to any room. Spaces by Jacflash has recently designed a couple of spaces with hanging swings that truly brings a WOW factor to both spaces.
A recent space we designed is the Queen St. boutique, Untitled & Co.. We created a Mongolian wool bench, with gold chain hardware to accessorize the space in harmony with the rest of the store. You may have seen photos of this striking swing on the Instagram accounts of many of Untitled & Co’s customer’s.
Another hanging swing we used, is at one of the trendiest boutique office spaces in the city, #Paid. We used a white knitted hammock that looks perfect in the lounge area of the office. In this space, we really wanted to utilize the raw exposed materials in the building like the brick walls and shelving unit filled with wood logs to create a cozy, organic vibe, and this swing really brought this semblance to life.
Other hammock inspiration we love…
Until next Trending Tuesday… xoxo the Spaces by Jacflash team.
Applying wall moulding to your space is a great way to incorporate line and shape into your room, and brings with it a classy and sophisticated feel. We recently adding panels to a small room in a house we are working on and here’s how we did it:
What you will need:
–MDF chair-rail moulding (1-2″ wide)
– mitre saw (45 degrees)
– measuring tape
– wood filler
– paintable caulking and gun
– stud/metal finder
Planning out your design. You need to know exactly where each panel will go and ensure that each box is visually appealing. We first measured the wall to see the width of it and divided it by the number of panels, giving space in between each panel approximately 6″ and 2′ off the ground and 1′ down from the ceiling. You need to know how many pieces you need to cut and of what size before you begin.
Measure how long each piece of chair rail needs to be with a pencil then using a 45 degree angle to cut your chair-rail (using a mitre saw helps). Cutting in opposite directions on every other piece to form a 90 degree angle.
Apply caulking on the back of each piece and carefully stick it to the wall to form your perfect rectangle panel. For extra support (we found that some of the pieces of wood were a bit curved therefore making it harder to stick to the wall) use a stud/metal finder to see where to hammer in a nail or two for extra support.
Fill the holes and uneven edges with wood filler and smooth with a damp finger.
Wait at least 24 hours to dry, sand over any bumpy edges and paint over!
Enjoy your new sophisticated space.
Whatever you call this colour- moss, olive, army, it is one of the biggest crazes of fall. Olive green is a trend that will never go out of style as it is a great hue to serve as a neutral base. I pairs well with everyone’s personal style and wardrobe and looks great on all skin tones.
Keep your eye out next week, as you’ll be seeing plenty of this colour on the streets at Toronto Fashion Week.
