LOST & FOUND MONDAY’S feat. JUSTIN BIEBER

This past Monday was one of the most unbelievable Monday’s we have had thus far. Toronto’s own, Justin Bieber made an appearance at Lost & Found after his acoustic show for charity for The Stratford House of Blessing at the Danforth Music Hall.

Justin showed up to the club friendly and ready to party with all of us after his Grammy nomination announcement.

It was an unforgettable night for us, as we also celebrated Lost & Found owner Mickey Manish’s Birthday on Toronto’s favourite night of the week.  In that same evening we also had three time Formula One World champion and Mercedes Benz AMG racer, Lewis Hamilton join us,  as well as award winning producer Boi -1da, model Winnie Harlow, numerous Toronto Raptors and Robert Sacre of the Lakers, the gorgeous Instagram and Youtube famous makeup artist @Sonjdradeluxe, numerous gentlemen from OVO, rapper P.Reign, as well as EDM DJ’s Dzeko and Torres.

Trending Tuesday: Swings

There is a new trend that brings ultimate comfort and lounging indoors: hammocks and swings create eye-catching loungers to any room.  Spaces by Jacflash has recently designed a couple of spaces with hanging swings that truly brings a WOW factor to both spaces.

A recent space we designed is the Queen St. boutique, Untitled & Co.. We created a Mongolian wool bench, with gold chain hardware to accessorize the space in harmony with the rest of the store. You may have seen photos of this striking swing on the Instagram accounts of many of Untitled & Co’s customer’s.

Another hanging swing we used, is at one of the trendiest boutique office spaces in the city, #Paid. We used a white knitted hammock that looks perfect in the lounge area of the office. In this space, we really wanted to utilize the raw exposed materials in the building like the brick walls and shelving unit filled with wood logs to create a cozy, organic vibe, and this swing really brought this semblance to life.

Spaces by Jacflash How To- Wall Moulding

Applying wall moulding to your space is a great way to incorporate line and shape into your room, and brings with it a classy and sophisticated feel. We recently adding panels to a small room in a house we are working on and here’s how we did it:

df35fb7987e7e3890b926f685826814aWhat you will need:

MDF chair-rail moulding (1-2″ wide)
– nails
– mitre saw (45 degrees)
– measuring tape
– pencil
– wood filler
paintable caulking and gun
– stud/metal finder
Step 1:
Planning out your design. You need to know exactly where each panel will go and ensure that each box is visually appealing.  We first measured the wall to see the width of it and divided it by the number of panels, giving space in between each panel approximately 6″ and 2′ off the ground and 1′ down from the ceiling. You need to know how many pieces you need to cut and of what size before you begin.

Step 2:
Measure how long each piece of chair rail needs to be with a pencil then using a 45 degree angle to cut your chair-rail (using a mitre saw helps). Cutting in opposite directions on every other piece to form a 90 degree angle.

Step 3:
Apply caulking on the back of each piece and carefully stick it to the wall to form your perfect rectangle panel. For extra support (we found that some of the pieces of wood were a bit curved therefore making it harder to stick to the wall) use a stud/metal finder to see where to hammer in a nail or two for extra support.

Step 4:
Fill the holes and uneven edges with wood filler and smooth with a damp finger.

Step 5:
Wait at least 24 hours to dry, sand over any bumpy edges and paint over!
Enjoy your new sophisticated space.

What I’m Wearing Today – Olive Green

Whatever you call this colour- moss, olive, army, it is one of the biggest crazes of fall.  Olive green is a trend that will never go out of style as it is a great hue to serve as a neutral base. I pairs well with everyone’s personal style and wardrobe and looks great on all skin tones.

Keep your eye out next week, as you’ll be seeing plenty of this colour on the streets at Toronto Fashion Week.

What I’m wearing today #jacflash everything – New Arrivals! Loose fit olive line knit sweater– $85, Elastic waist drop pants -$85, Feather fedora -$85, Olive pump -$85. NOW available online at www.jacflash.net

Trending Tuesday: Pendants

Pendant lights have been a staple in household design for centuries and is still the number one statement piece used in modern décor today. We use pendants to not only add additional lighting to our spaces, but also to create a decorative focal point to any room.

In a recent project we designed for a bright condo located in Yorkville, we used an industrial pendant to balance masculine and modern features in the space.

We chose this pendant because of its industrial style and the matte black colour complimented the wainscoting on the room’s feature wall.

Additional elements of organic wood texture, a monochromatic colour scheme, metal hardware and the feature wall all tie space together.

We used a glass pendant in another room to both contrast and compliment the organic raw wood texture used in this custom barn board headboard we designed and had made, order here.

Another example of combining contrasting elements with the use of pendants was in the kitchen of a Trump Hotel residence we designed. We used an industrial washed pendant to contrast with the sleek and modern kitchen.

In this living room we used this one of a kind spider pendant as a statement piece. The modern silver bulbs balance with the industrial art in the background.

One of our favourite ways to accent our pendants is by combining a modern fixture with a ceiling medallion. Ceiling medallions have been around since the 1800’s and paired with the right fixture, it becomes an unforgettable statement piece.

We love this feathered ceiling medallion that is on sale at Jacflash.
