Spring has almost sprung but Winter just won’t seem to die off in Toronto this year. The long winter has gotten us all dreaming about the approaching, budding months and the all new trends and colours that come with it. Spaces by Jacflash has put together a few of the upcoming design crazes for you to stay ahead of the curve with.
Two-Toned Kitchen Cabinets
Don’t get us wrong, monochromatic kitchens are fabulous but mixing the cabinets and island cabinet colours can be a charming touch to any space.
Statement Powder Rooms
Some may argue that the ensuite is the most imperative restroom in the house, but a powder room is what your guests see, so why wouldn’t you want that room to be as memorable and glamorous as your own? A small washroom with a big design concept can make a big impact. Here are a few of our favourite statement powder rooms and tips to a great powder room makeover:
- A great wallcovering or paint colour
- Dramatic mirror with beveled edge, patina or an ornate design
- Crown molding
- New hardware in a matte brushed copper
- Striking tile
Black And White Trends
Monochromatic design has always been a Spaces by Jacflash favourite, how can you go wrong with a clean and striking space where everything matches!
Marble And Iron
Marble is an iconic material to use in any home, but pairing it with iron or black can make it look even more eye-catching.
An original or remodel, classic or contemporary, fireplaces will always be iconic and never go out of style.
Everyone knows that flowers and plants can bring life and vigor to a space, but succulents and terrariums are a 2016 trend that are not only fresh, but also alluring to the eye.
Adding new pulls and hardware to a space can be an inexpensive but dramatic change. Spaces by Jacflash’s favourite features of the moment are acrylic pulls and/or the use of brushed brass tones. Larger than usual pulls can also be incredibly impactful.
Some people are just naturally drawn to the allure of shabby chic decor but what really seems to be booming this year are neutral-chic designs. Try veering away from the harsh chevron patterns and strong metallics we used so often in previous seasons and move towards matte metals, stones, organic materials and colours like soft dusty pastels.

As one never wants to invest too time or money into a rental property, Spaces by Jacflash managed to keep this rental home project within a very reasonable budget. Changing this grungy washroom into a spa-like, tranquil escape master bath was wasn’t easy and it took a lot of creativity to create that champagne look we love on our beer budget.
Below are a few of our secrets so that you too can economically revive your bathroom:
To complete this master bathroom makeover, the first thing we tackled was the appalling blue sink and bath tub- we had both the tub and sinks refinished with fresh, white paint.
To create a luxurious and upscale semblance for the room, we covered the sides of the bathtub and vanity with a white granite looking, vinyl self adhesive sticker.
Before the makeover, the walls were a drab and dirty, off-white colour. We spruced them up with a gorgeous textured wall covering from the Graham & Brown collection to add an elegant patterned touch.
Other effortless ways to really revive your bathroom are by adding in a new shower and bath faucet. Fresh towels also always make a bathroom feel more luxurious and putting up a mirror with beveled edging or an intriguing, ornate frame like we did, completely changed the vibe of the room. Finishing touches we added to complete the room included accessories like silver trays, coral and flowers. Shop the jacflash home section here!

This Spaces by Jacflash project began with an empty, newly finished condo in the Roncesvalles area in West Toronto. The condo was about as cookie cutter as you can get, but when Spaces by Jacflash finished with the space, it was transformed into a one of a kind home with elegant and cozy character.
The dominant feature in this space was the barn-board wood wall that extended over and above the kitchen. This created a warmth and unusual texture throughout the home that one does not typically get in a condo.
Floating metal shelves framed the television showcasing cherished treasures.
We combined elements of industrial furnishings with a polished antique crystal chandelier. Rustic features paired with gold touches transformed this space into a romantic, organic place to call home.
Other personal touches included the gold framed photo wall displaying the couple’s wedding photos.
In the client’s bedroom, a carpet hung behind their bed, acting as an artistic headboard, a simple yet dramatic effect to the space that also drowns out any neighbourly noise.
